Other ways is when rumination thoughts enter my mind, once recognized, I have a planned thought to replace it ie. shopping list. For example I was ruminating about a past interaction with a friend every time I shaved my legs- weird I know, but the friend mentioned my hairy legs once and I was embarrassed. For a month of shaving I distracted myself with my grocery shopping list, trying to recall it from memory and added to it. It worked! Now shaving doesn’t trigger any rumination.
